NHS School-Based ‘Flu Vaccination’ leaflet

Dear Parents & Carers

Following the NHS School-Based ‘Flu Vaccination’ leaflet and consent form that was sent home last week, I am writing to confirm that your child(ren), will not be administered the vaccine in school without your consent.

The leaflet and consent form was issued on behalf of NHS Luton Children & Adults Community Health Services.

The flu vaccine is in the form of a single dose of live vaccine and administered via nasal spray.   From this winter the vaccine is available for children aged two, three and four years old plus children in school years one and two as part of the NHS childhood vaccination programme.  In some parts of the country all primary school-aged children will also be offered the vaccine as part of a pilot programme.

The consent form notes that the nasal vaccine contains porcine gelatin and that there is no suitable alternative ‘flu vaccine’ available for healthy children.   To help you decide if you would like your child to receive the vaccine further information is available via:

Yours faithfully

Mrs L McMulkin
